A vibrant, multi-cultural, cross-generational community that loves one another in Christ and is committed to reaching people with the good news of Jesus.
A Story of Revitalisation
See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
Early in 2019, the leadership of Eastwood Baptist Church began meeting with representatives from Pennant Hills Baptist with a view to a possible partnership for the work of revitalisation at Eastwood. How might we effectively arrest and reverse the decline that Eastwood Baptist found themselves in? The question was asked – “What if we were to close? Would you (Pennant Hills Baptist) be interested in helping us restart again?”
So began the journey towards closure and re-launch. A team to lead a revitalisation effort was set up, made up of leaders from both churches. In November 2019, Pennant Hills sent Jonny Lam from their staff to act as a transitional pastor for Eastwood, and September 2020 was earmarked for the date of the launch of the new work.
What is on the cards? A new name, a new culture, new ways of connecting with each other and the wider community, new leaders, new facilities, new systems and structures and ways of doing things – all built on the rich legacy of Christian witness that Eastwood Baptist has maintained for over 100 years in the area and beyond.
Our vision is for the establishment of a vibrant, multi-cultural, cross-generational community that loves one another in Christ and is committed to reaching people with the good news of Jesus.
Even with the challenges brought on by COVID-19, we are pressing on, and God-willing, will remain on track for our September 2020 re-launch.
Come and share in what God is doing amongst us, and our hope for the future.
